San Jose man's wife dies after he set her on fire, police say

A homeless man in San Jose was arrested this week after he allegedly killed his wife by setting her on fire.

Barton Williams, 49, is expected to be charged and arraigned Friday in the death of Patricia Storey, 64, who was found with severe burns on Monday in the 100 block of South 2nd Street, the Santa Clara County district attorney's office said.

She died the following day.

Police told the San Jose Mercury News that the couple was homeless and that detectives were investigating whether the incident was caused by a domestic dispute. Police weren't sure if drugs or alcohol played a role in the killing.

Prosecutors said Williams has two previous convictions for robbery and burglary in Oregon.
