Loyal black Lab refuses to leave side of dog fatally hit by car

A loyal Labrador has attracted loads of attention for staying  by the side of a fallen dog in the middle of a busy La Puente street.

Video released over the weekend shows the black Lab lying next to her friend, a yellow Labrador, as cars stream by.

Officials at the Baldwin Park Animal Care Center named the 2-year-old black Lab Grace, KTLA-TV reports.

The station also said  a motorist put down traffic cones to divert other drivers as the Labrador mourned  her comrade, who had been struck by a car. The exact street where the dog was hit Wednesday was unclear.

Shelter staff told KTLA that Grace appears to have been well-cared for, but no one came forward to claim her. People have been lining up to adopt the dog, but officials say a new owner has already been selected. She will be picked up by her new family Monday.
