Fire in downtown's Fashion District damages four buildings

About 150 firefighters battled a blaze early Sunday that damaged four businesses in downtown Los Angeles’ Fashion District.

Fire crews responded to the fire near Maple Avenue and Olympic Boulevard at about 2 a.m., said Brian Humphrey, a Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman.

While battling the fire within the building, the roof began to give way, forcing firefighters outside, he said. The blaze was put out about an hour and 40 minutes later.

At least four businesses along the commercial strip were damaged.

A firefighter was taken to a local hospital in fair condition after suffering a severe laceration on his arm. No other injuries were reported, Humphrey said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
