Coroner identifies missing Carson man
Coroner’s officials have identified the body found floating in a flood control channel earlier this week as that of a young Carson man who’d been missing for more than a week.
Elgin Stafford, 23, was found floating in the channel north of Avalon Boulevard by a passerby shortly after noon Thursday.
Stafford, who was raised in Carson by his immigrant parents from Sierra Leone and who had graduated from Carson High School, had been missing since March 20.
Sheriff’s officials said he did not have a history of psychiatric problems but had recently been exhibiting erratic behavior.
Stafford was a graduate of UC Berkeley and was attending graduate school at USC.
No foul play is suspected in his death, sheriff’s officials said.
