13-year-old holding gun is shot in apparent accident, police say

A 13-year-old boy was shot in the face Thursday in Pacoima when a gun he was holding apparently accidentally discharged, police said.

The boy was taken to a hospital after the incident in the 10000 block of Telfair Avenue.

"At this point, it appears to be an accidental firearms discharge," LAPD Lt. Andrew Neiman said.

Neiman said the circumstances surrounding the incident were still being investigated.
