Toddler killed, two others injured when pickup strikes bus bench

An 18-month-old girl was killed Saturday when a pickup truck plowed into a bus bench on Valley Boulevard in El Monte, police said.

The pickup’s driver was in the parking lot of a Walgreens at around 2:07 p.m. when his vehicle went forward through a parking stall, over a planter and into the bench, striking three people, said El Monte Police Officer Ryan Abbott.

The toddler, a 12-year-old boy and a 36-year-old woman were transported to Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center. The girl was pronounced dead at the hospital. The woman was in critical condition and the boy was stable, Abbott said.

No arrests have been made. Police are still trying to determine what caused the accident, Abbott said.
