Snowboarder killed at Sugar Bowl ski resort

A 20-year-old Placer County man was killed Monday when he fell into a tree well while snowboarding with friends at the Sugar Bowl ski resort in the Lake Tahoe area, authorities said.

Placer County sheriff’s deputies said the accident occurred about 2:30 p.m. on Strawberry Fields, a double-black diamond, or expert, run at the resort.

The young man’s friends found him trapped in a deep hole that snow had formed round a tree.

Deputies did not release the name of the man until his next of kin can be notified. They did say he was a Sugar Bowl employee.
