Snow falls on Grapevine Freeway, Highway 14

The winter storm moving through Southern California dropped snow at about 3,000 feet Saturday night, dumping on both the Grapevine Freeway and Highway 14 toward Palmdale.

The freeways remained open but some of the side roads were closed, according to the California Highway Patrol. Parts of the Angeles Crest Highway were also closed due to snow, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Public Works.

About 8.5 inches of snow fell in Wrightwood, according to the National Weather Service. Ski resorts in Wrightwood and Big Bear reported between 18 and 24 inches of fresh powder.

Showers were likely to continue Sunday morning with a slight chance of thunderstorms before clearing at night.
