Shock after female teacher in Hemet accused of having sex with boy

School officials have express shock after a female teacher at Hemet High was arrested for allegedly having sex with a boy who was a student.

“We’re always deeply concerned when allegations like these surfaces,” said Hemet Deputy Superintendent LaFaye Platter said in a statement to the Press-Enterprise.

“We’ve assured every family at Hemet Unified about their student’s safety," Platter added. "We’re a close-knit, conscientious community with an obligation to report any suspicious activity or child abuse.”

Janel Ramirez, 31, was booked on suspicion of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor, the Riverside County Sheriff's Department said. The student's age was not released.

The alleged sex occurred in December.

Administrators at the school contacted the Sheriff's Department on Wednesday to report the incident.

Authorities said the investigation was ongoing and asked anyone with information to call investigators at (951) 791-3400.
