Sea lion rescued off rocky beach in La Jolla

Clion

A California sea lion tangled in fishing net and with a large fishing hook in its lip was rescued Friday from a rocky stretch of shoreline in La Jolla by city lifeguards and a team from SeaWorld San Diego.

The lifeguards and SeaWorld rescue team members rappelled down a cliff to reach the beach near Devil's Slide.

Once on the beach, team members disentangled the sea lion, estimated to weigh 175 pounds, and removed the fishing hook from its lip.

When last seen, the sea lion was swimming into the open ocean.
