Deputy wounded, suspect dead in parking lot shooting

A San Bernardino County sheriff’s deputy was shot in the leg and another person was fatally shot Thursday in the parking lot of a Stater Bros. grocery store in San Bernardino.

[For the record, 9:14 p.m. March 29: An earlier version of this post said the grocery store is in Highland. It is in San Bernardino.]

Deputies were conducting a follow-up investigation about 10 a.m. in the parking lot of the grocery store at Highland and Del Rosa avenues when a person described as a suspect was shot and killed, said spokeswoman Jodi Miller.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, Miller said. The deputy was taken to a hospital.

Investigators from the sheriff’s specialized homicide division were at the scene.
