Pilot severely injured as small plane crashes at Fallbrook airport

The pilot of a single-engine plane was severely injured Sunday morning when the plane crashed at the Fallbrook Airpark in northern San Diego County, the sheriff's department said.

The pilot was airlifted to Palomar Medical Center in Escondido with "major injuries," said Sgt. Patrick Yates. The plane was described as a single-seat, experimental craft.

There were no other injuries. The airport, run by the county government, has spaces for more than 100 privately-owned aircraft.
