Sheriff's deputy shoots man in Orange County

An Orange County sheriff's deputy shot and wounded a motorcyclist in Rancho Santa Margarita on Saturday, a department spokesman said Sunday.

The deputy spotted the speeding motorcyclist about 12:40 p.m. Saturday and tried to stop him but the man sped away, Sgt. Jason Park. The deputy, who recognized the motorcyclist, went to the man's home. An altercation occurred and the deputy shot the motorcyclist, who was taken to the hospital for treatment, Park said.

The Orange County District Attorney's Office is conducting an investigation, Park said.
