Hand grenade found at Toyota dealership was inert, police say

A hand grenade that was found in a red compact vehicle at a Toyota dealership in La Crescenta on Wednesday afternoon was not explosive, police said.

The World War II grenade was found by employees at Bob Smith Toyota in the 3300 block of Foothill Boulevard  about 4:50 p.m. as they were cleaning and servicing a car for resale, said Glendale Police Sgt. Tom Lorenz.

A bomb squad responded and evacuations were made, police told the Glendale News-Press.
