Man charged in killings of Redondo Beach girlfriend, her mother

Redondo Beach slayings
A man suspected of killing his girlfriend and her mother in their Redondo Beach apartment was charged Friday with two counts of capital murder, the Los Angeles County district attorney's office said.

Jonathan Scott Chacon, 23, was detained Wednesday by Mexican authorities in Baja California and returned to Los Angeles, where he is charged in the slayings of 19-year-old girlfriend Courtney Bergman and her mother, 59-year-old Vicki Bergman.

The bodies of the two women were discovered Tuesday in their apartment in the 1900 block of Rockefeller Lane by a co-worker of one of the victims, officials said.

Prosecutors said they would hold off on deciding whether to pursue the death penalty. Chacon was being held without bail.
