Mega Millions: California Lottery lists 'luckiest' retailers
Want to try your luck at winning the record-setting $540 million Mega Millions jackpot? The California Lottery has a list of what it calls the luckiest retailers in the state.
According to the California Lottery, the luckiest store in the state is Kavanagh Liquors in San Lorenzo, which has sold four winning tickets.
In Los Angeles County, three stores share the record for selling three winning tickets: Mr. C's Liquor in San Pedro, Town + Country Newstand in Los Angeles and Mike's Beverage Shop in Quartz Hill.
A 7-Eleven in Oxnard and a liquor store in Sacramento also made the list for selling three winning tickets.
Lines were long Thursday morning at Mike's Beverage Shop, where someone recently won more than $56,000.
"We are lucky -- top 5," said Mike Wannes, owner of Mike's Beverage Shop.
Wannes said he hopes the store's good fortune continues through Friday.
Bluebird Liquor in Hawthorne wasn't on the list but is nevertheless known as a lucky store, where people have bought winning tickets in the past. On Thursday morning, customers stretched out the door in a line that was said to be two hours long.
Mega Millions tickets are available in 42 states plus the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
The Mega Millions lottery jackpot eclipsed $500 million Thursday, setting what officials say is a world record and sending Southern Californians into a frenzy over the prospect of striking it rich.
The California Lottery website received more than 1 million page views Tuesday between 8 and 9 p.m. when the Mega Millions drawing, which produced no winners, was announced, said lottery spokesman Elias Dominguez.
