Marine from Camp Pendleton killed in Afghanistan

A Marine from Camp Pendleton has been killed in combat in Afghanistan, the Department of Defense announced Saturday.

Cpl. Roberto Cazarez, 24, from the Harbor City neighborhood of Los Angeles, was killed Friday in Helmand province. He was assigned to the 1st Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, 1st Marine Division, 1st Marine Expeditionary Force.

A vehicle crewman, Cazarez was on his first deployment to Afghanistan.
