Beverly Hilton draws photographers

The Beverly Hilton was on lockdown Sunday morning, with hotel employees standing outside checking patrons for room keys.

Inside, freelance photographers milled around the 4th floor, on which hotel maintenance staff say pop singer Whitney Houston had been staying.

A hotel staffer wearing a remote earpiece sat outside a closed room at the end of the hall, declining to answer any questions about Houston's death a day earlier.

One photographer -- who described himself, as an independent reporter, not a paparazzo -- stopped at open doors on the floor, asking maids if he could take a picture of the bathtub. Some media reports said that Houston was found unresponsive in the bathtub.

"My mom is staying here. Can I enter," the photographer asked one maid. When he learned pop artist Ray J had just left the hotel in a Red Ferrari, the photographer lamented: "That's a $50,000 shot."
