Athletic assistant arrested in relationship with 16-year-old

An athletic assistant at Polytechnic High School has been arrested on suspicion of having an inappropriate sexual relationship with a 16-year old student, Los Angeles police said.

Jose Rosario Alvarez, 27, of Los Angeles was booked on suspicion of the felony Wednesday afternoon but LAPD officials did not detail the nature of the conduct or its duration.

The victim is a Los Angeles Unified School District student but does not attend Polytechnic, LAPD officials said.

The crime was discovered by the department's Internet Crimes Against Children Unit, but police did not say what images, if any, were found by investigators.

Alvarez is being held on $20,000 bail. Detectives will forward their case to Los Angeles County district attorney's office for possible filing by Friday.
