Police chase suspected drunk driver from Malibu to Mid-City

February 4, 2012 |  3:09 pm

A police chase that started in the civic center area of Malibu Saturday morning later came to an end about an hour later in the Mid-City area of Los Angeles, authorities said.

The pursuit began around 9:20 a.m on Pacific Coast Highway near Serra Road when several motorists reported seeing a suspected drunk driver, said Lt. Todd Weber of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

"Ultimately, he led the deputies down Pacific Coast Highway into Santa Monica, where we terminated our pursuit," Weber said.

A spokesperson for the Santa Monica Police Department could not be reached for comment.

Ultimately, the erratic driver led police officers into the West Los Angeles area, where LAPD took over the pursuit.

The chase ended around 10:48 a.m. near the intersection of Pico and Redondo boulevards, said Los Angeles Police Officer Rosario Herrera. She did not know if a traffic collision had occurred at the intersection but said that officers had called for fire paramedics.

Erik Scott of the Los Angeles Fire Department said paramedics responded around 10:51 a.m. to a traffic collision in the 1300 block of South Redondo Bouelvard. At least one person was taken to a local hospital. No further information was provided.

Herrera said it was unknown if the suspect was taken to a local hospital..
