Search on for man who barricaded himself in Van Nuys home

Van Nuys barricade
Police were searching Tuesday for a man who barricaded himself inside a Van Nuys home but escaped before officers could find him.

The incident began about 9:20 p.m. Monday when police were called to the home on the 6700 block of Costello Avenue, where the man's wife told them her husband refused to leave and had access to firearms, said Officer Bruce Borihanh of the Los Angeles Police Department.

The SWAT team was called to the scene but when officers searched the house, the man wasn't there. They continued their search as of 6:30 a.m. Tuesday.

It was unclear what kind of weapons were in the couple's home, Borihanh said.

"It could be anything," he said Tuesday.
