Shooter may be inside burning East Hollywood home, police say
Three people who were shot at a burning home in East Hollywood on Thursday were taken to a hospital with bullet wounds in their upper bodies, officials said.
A man believed to be the shooter may be inside the home in the 500 block of North Harvard Boulevard, where firefighters were battling a furious blaze, police said. No description of the suspect or victims was immediately available. The victims' conditions were unknown.
Firefighters did not believe the fire had spread to other nearby buildings in the densely packed neighborhood. The area was evacuated while the fire burns itself out, and police were waiting until flames abated to move in, said Lt. Andy Neiman of the Los Angeles Police Department.
Nearby Harvard Elementary School was placed on lockdown and some parents were trying to figure out how to get to the school to find their children, with all streets in the immediate vicinity closed.
