Ryan O'Neal's son gets 16 months in drunk driving, weapons case

Griffin O'Neal, the son of actor Ryan O'Neal, was sentenced Friday to 16 months in prison after pleading guilty to drunk driving and weapons possession in an auto accident last year that injured another driver.

O'Neal, 47, a resident of northern San Diego County, had cocaine, marijuana, Xanax and amphetamines in his system when the accident occurred in August, according to court documents. He also had a handgun and shotgun in his possession. He was on probation at the time for a 2007 drunk driving conviction.

O'Neal was sentenced in San Diego County Superior Court. He missed an earlier sentencing hearing after enrolling in an alcohol treatment program.

He had a brief acting career; his mother is the late Dorothy Cook and his sister is Tatum O'Neal.
