101 Freeway reopens after fatal early morning crash in Studio City

February 16, 2012 |  7:25 am

An early morning crash Thursday on the 101 Freeway in Studio City claimed one person's life and injured two others while bringing traffic to a halt.

However, all lanes were open for morning commuters after CHP officers and firefighters cleared the scene near Coldwater Canyon Avenue. The 3:45 a.m. crash occurred when a car struck a utility pole, said Officer Tatiana Sauquillo of the California Highway Patrol.

The accident blocked all eastbound lanes and caused multiple injuries to those involved, officials said.

One person sustained major injuries and was subsequently pronounced dead at a hospital, Sauquillo said.

Traffic was diverted off the freeway around 4:50 a.m., but two lanes reopened soon thereafter and all lanes were open by 6:05 a.m.
