Earthquake: 3.0 quake strikes near Cartago

A shallow magnitude 3.0 earthquake was reported Thursday evening 18 miles from Cartago, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The temblor occurred at 6:38 p.m. Pacific time at a depth of 0 miles.

According to the USGS, the epicenter was 18 miles from Olancha, 24 miles from Coso Junction, 30 miles from Lone Pine and 148 miles from Los Angeles Civic Center.

In the past 10 days, there have been two earthquakes magnitude 3.0 and greater centered nearby.
