Councilman, 23, is arrested, accused of DUI, child endangerment

February 20, 2012 |  1:06 pm

A 23-year-old city councilman in the Central Valley who was arrested two years ago on drug possession charges was arrested again early Monday on suspicion of DUI and child endangerment, authorities said.

Jesse James White, who serves on the Riverbank City Council, was arrested in nearby Oakdale, Fox40 in Sacramento reported.

Oakdale officers called to an accident scene at about 1 a.m. found a witness holding down White, who reportedly had tried to run away. White smelled strongly of alcohol, police said.

A small child who witnesses said had been in the front seat of White’s car suffered minor injuries and was later released to family members, police said.

White survived a recall effort in 2010 after his drug arrest. The city council sued White in 2011, seeking to remove him from office, but dropped the suit a few weeks ago.
