February 17, 2012 | 12:48 pm

A 2-year-old boy who died Thursday night was allegedly beaten to death by his mother's boyfriend, authorities said.

Ceasar Vasquez, 19, was arrested soon after San Bernardino County Sheriff's deputies responded to the 9200 block of Anza Trail in Lucerne Valley at 10:06 p.m. to help a toddler who had been assaulted and was possibly not breathing.

Officials performed CPR on Damian Negrete, then took him to St. Mary Medical Center. He was flown to Loma Linda University Medical Center, where he died at 1:25 a.m. Friday morning, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner Department.

Deputies found Vasquez hiding in the desert nearby with a self-inflicted wound to his neck. He was arrested, taken to the hospital and later taken to the West Valley Detention Center.

The toddler apparently died from traumatic injuries. An autopsy will be done to determine cause of death.

Anyone with information can call sheriff's investigators at (909) 387-3598.
