Big rig flips on 91 Freeway near Gardena; multiple lanes closed

A big rig going from the Harbor Freeway to the Gardena Freeway overturned Monday, forcing multiple lane closures.

The semi-truck rolled over as it was coming off the transitional road from the northbound 110 Freeway to the 91 Freeway near Gardena, according to the California Highway Patrol, whose officers were called to the scene at 6:47 a.m.

"When you’re going onto a transition road, there are loops and accidents usually happen there if people are driving too fast, but it's unknown if that is the case," said CHP Officer Tatiana Sauquillo.

Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics took one person from the site to a hospital, said spokesman Matt Spence.

Two lanes on the 91 -- one in each direction -- are closed until the tractor trailer is removed from the freeway. The transition from the southbound 110 also is closed.
