1,000 lose power in South L.A. after wires downed

PowerAbout 1,000 homes lost power in South Los Angeles early Tuesday after power lines were downed.

The outage affected an area near Century Boulevard and Western Avenue, said Los Angeles Department of Water and Power spokeswoman Carol Tucker.

The electricity outage was reported at 5:20 a.m.

"Crews are there and working on restoring the power," Tucker said. She did not provide details on how the lines were downed or an estimate of when service would be restored.
