Female student sexually assaulted at UCLA

A female UCLA student was sexually assaulted early Friday in a part of campus once colloquially known as "the rape trail."

UCLA police are looking for the suspect, who was described as white, 6 feet tall, 150 pounds and about 21 years old, with short brown hair and blue eyes, according to a crime alert issued by the campus police department.

The attack occurred about 2:20 a.m. at the top of the Saxon steps, which connect the Saxon Suites dormitories with Gayley Avenue. A man called out to the female student climbing the steps, according to a statement from UCLA. After a brief conversation, the man sexually assaulted her, it said.

The student eventually got away and called police, who arrived after the man had fled, the statement said. It is unclear whether she knew him.
