Man assaulted girl he met on mobile chat app, police say
A Santa Monica man has been arrested on suspicion of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl he met on a mobile chat application, police said Thursday night.
Brian Anthony Marks, 31, "developed an ongoing sexual relationship with the victim" after meeting her in September, the Santa Monica Police Department said in a statement.
The mobile application allegedly used by Marks is similar to a chat room, police said.
Marks was booked Tuesday into the Santa Monica Jail on suspicion of lewd and lascivious acts with a child and unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor, police said. He was being held in lieu of $500,000 bail.
Police said there may be additional victims. Anyone with information is asked to call Det. Leslie Trapnell at (310) 458-2256 or Sgt. Renaldi Thruston at (310) 458-8814. After hours messages can be left at (310) 458-8495.
