Female prison guard pleads guilty to sex with inmate

A former corrections officer at Lompoc's Federal Correctional Complex has pleaded guilty to having unlawful sex with an inmate.

Renee Noelle Gutierrez, 42, of Redondo Beach pleaded guilty Wednesday afternoon in United States District Court to a felony charge of sexual abuse of a male ward.

Gutierrez was a prison dorm supervisor responsible for more than 500 inmates when she committed the sex act in April 2010. She resigned after her illegal sexual conduct was uncovered shortly before she was indicted by a federal grand jury last August.

She is to be sentenced March 26. She  faces up to 15 years in federal prison.
