Alleged 'Puffy Coat Bandit' bank robber arrested

January 11, 2012 |  8:54 am

A 46-year-old parolee was being held Wednesday in connection with seven bank robberies across Southern California allegedly committed by the "Puffy Coat Bandit."

Steven Dwayne Paulson was being held on a parole violation and was expected to be charged Wednesday in connection with the bank hold-ups, FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller said.

He was arrested after a description of the "Puffy Coat Bandit" was distributed Tuesday and Upland police detectives spotted Paulson driving, Eimiller said.

The robberies began Dec. 20 in Chino, and the investigation involved authorities from the counties of Los Angeles, San Bernardino and Riverside.

Paulson, of Pomona, is alleged to have hit his latest bank Jan.9.  FBI bank squad agents dubbed the bank robber the "Puffy Coat Bandit" because of a ski parka he wore during some of the earlier robberies.
