Marines' flight paths to change for Torrey Pines golf tournament

Marine Corps Air Station Miramar will change flight paths so as not to bother golfers and audience at Torrey Pines tournament

Flight patterns from the Marine Corps Air Station Miramar will be altered to avoid noise bothering golfers and fans at next week's tournament at Torrey Pines Golf Course, the Marines announced Friday.

Westerly departures and landings will be changed from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m, from Monday, Jan. 23, through Sunday, Jan. 29. If the tournament requires a Monday playoff, the changes will be extended.

The change is being made on behalf of the U.S. Golf Assn. to accommodate the 2012 Farmers Insurance Invitational.

Neighborhoods that do not usually hear the sound of jets and helicopters overhead may experience an increase in noise, the Marine Corps said.
