Marine from Twentynine Palms killed in Afghanistan

A Marine from Twentynine Palms has been killed in combat in Afghanistan, the Pentagon announced Tuesday.

Cpl. Christopher Singer, 23, of Temecula was killed Saturday in Helmand province.

He was assigned to the 3rd Combat Engineer Battalion, 1st Marine Division at the Marine Air-Ground Combat Center at Twentynine Palms. He was on his first combat deployment.

Singer is survived by his wife, Brooke, and their 2-year-old daughter, Briyana.
