Man released from jail rearrested for stealing his inmate jumpsuit

A Colton man just released from county jail Friday morning was arrested for possession of stolen property –- his day-glow orange inmate jumpsuit.

Jerry Valentino Aldama, 26, allegedly boarded a bus outside the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga wearing the orange jumpsuit, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.

The driver quickly alerted authorities, providing them updates as the bus drove along. Deputies intercepted the bus in Fontana, taking Aldama into custody.

Investigators said that Aldama, who was in jail on a bench warrant related to a shoplifting charge, had been released from custody about 4:30 a.m. and allegedly hid his inmate clothing when released. Then, once outside, he slipped into the jail jumpsuit.

Aldama is now back in jail.
