Man pleads not guilty in Craigslist underage sex case

January 13, 2012 |  2:58 pm

A Santa Ana man pleaded not guilty Friday to attempting to start a sexual relationship with a 13-year-old girl on Craigslist who turned out not to exist.

Oscar Zamora Pinedo, 35, is charged with one felony count each of contacting a minor with intent to commit a lewd act and arranging to meet a minor to commit a lewd act. He faces a maximum sentence of six years in state prison if convicted.

Pinedo is in custody in lieu of $100,000 bail and scheduled for a pretrial hearing Feb. 24 at the West Justice Center in Westminster.

Huntington Beach detectives, posing on Craigslist as a 13-year-old girl, received lewd messages over a period of months from Pinedo, who was told repeatedly of the girl's age, according to the Orange County district attorney's office.

Pinedo made arrangements to meet the girl with the intent of paying her to have sex with him and drove to Huntington Beach about 7:30 p.m. Jan. 4. He is accused of having several condoms and Viagra with him when he arrived at the location, where police arrested him.
