January 26, 2012 |  2:57 pm

A man jumped off a cliff to his death Thursday after an argument with his mother, officials said.

Los Angeles County firefighters responded to a call on the 1700 block of Paseo Del Mar in Palos Verdes Estates about a man who jumped off a nearby cliff, county fire Inspector Quvondo Johnson said.

The victim was an 18-year-old West Hills man who had been arguing with his mother, Palos Verdes Estates Police Chief Dan Dreiling told the Daily Breeze reported.

The man threatened to jump, prompting his mother to call police.

He jumped when he saw officers arrive, according to the newspaper. The fall was at least 200 feet.

Paramedics confirmed the victim dead at the scene and an urban search and rescue team was called to retrieve the body, Johnson said.
