Woman injured in North Hollywood house fire

January 11, 2012 |  9:16 am

A woman was injured Wednesday morning when a massive house fire ripped through a North Hollywood home, authorities said.

Firefighters arrived at the house in the 12400 block of Burton Street at 7:44 a.m. to find the one-story structure engulfed in flames, said Brian Humphrey, spokesman for the L.A. County Fire Department.

Forty-one firefighters battled the blazed for 21 minutes before it was contained.

The fire threatened neighboring homes, but the "aggressive, well-coordinated work" of firefighters prevented its spread, Humphrey said.

A woman inside was rescued and taken to a hospital, where she was being treated for burn injuries, Humphrey said. Neighbors told firefighters the home was vacant, and it was unclear what the woman was doing inside, he said.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
