Authorities Tuesday night were searching for a man who sexually assaulted an 11-year-old girl in the City of Industry as she stood in line at a store.

The girl was at a Ross Dress For Less department store in the 1600 block of South Azusa Avenue when the man assaulted her, the L.A. County Sheriff's Department said Tuesday night.

The girl's mother witnessed the assault, which occurred Dec. 11, and she yelled at the suspect. He quickly walked away, authorities said.

The man was identified afterward at a store in the Puente Hills Mall, and his image was captured on surveillance video.

The man is Latino, between 30 and 35 years old, weighs about 200 pounds, and is about 5 feet 6, the department said in a statement.

Anyone with information is asked to call Sheriff's Department investigators at (877) 710-5273.
