First baby of new year in L.A. County born to South Gate couple

January 1, 2012 | 11:36 am

An 8-pound 1-ounce baby boy delivered at California Hospital Medical Center in downtown Los Angeles early Sunday morning is believed to be the first child born in Los Angeles County in 2012.

Jayden Alexander Ramirez, son of Ilse Gutierrez, 18, and Erik Ramirez, 23, of South Gate, was born at three minutes past midnight on New Year’s Day, hospital officials said.

Gutierrez, whose due date was Jan 4., was surprised when she started having contractions on New Year’s Eve, she said. As her delivery edged closer to midnight several nurses gathered in her hospital room to cheer her on, she said. “I’m just really excited,” Gutierrez said. “Luckily everything has been going great.”

Two other baby boys were born just a few minutes later at Kaiser Permanente hospitals in Downey and the San Fernando Valley, according to City News Service. Jordan Godinez Jimenez, 7 pounds 6 ounces, and Aldo Lopez, 4 pounds 15 ounces, were born at 12:16 a.m., a spokeswoman told the news service.
