Earthquake: 3.4 quake strikes near Coachella

A shallow magnitude 3.4 earthquake was reported Friday morning seven miles from Coachella, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The temblor occurred at 8:58 a.m. Pacific time at a depth of 1.2 miles.

According to the USGS, the epicenter was 10 miles from Indio, 11 miles from Mecca, 27 miles from Palm Springs and 91 miles from San Diego.

In the last 10 days, there have been two earthquakes magnitude 3.0 and greater centered nearby.
