January 3, 2012 |  2:50 pm

A domestic dispute between a husband and wife ended early Tuesday with the apparent fatal stabbing of the Rancho Palos Verdes man, authorities said.

The wife called police at 1:04 a.m. to report domestic violence at the 5900 block of Flambeau Road, according to a statement release by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

Lomita deputies arrived at the home the married couple shared with their two young children. The woman came out with her 7-year-old son. Inside, deputies found the man with stab wounds and the couple's unharmed 4-year-old daughter.

The 40-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the L.A. County coroner's office. A handgun and a butcher knife were found nearby. The cause of death was unknown.

The woman was taken to the hospital with head trauma and other non-life-threatening injuries. The children were taken into protective custody.

Deputies were investigating the circumstances of the apparent stabbing.

"The wife has not been charged," said sheriff's Deputy Aura Lidman.  "But the investigation is still ongoing."
