Cyclist, 76, seriously injured in collision in Huntington Beach

A 76-year-old man sustained serious injuries after his bicycle collided with a sport utility vehicle Thursday morning in Huntington Beach.

Officers responded at about 11:40 a.m. and found that a brown 2006 Ford Explorer had collided with the bike on Heil Avenue west of Goldenwest Street, according to a police news release.

Both drivers are Huntington Beach residents and appeared to have been going west on Heil at the time of the collision, the release said.

The injured man was transferred to UC Irvine Medical Center, where he was treated, the Huntington Beach Independent reported.

The SUV driver, an 81-year-old man, was not injured and cooperated with the investigation.
