70-mph Santa Ana winds could hit L.A. area, forecasters say
Powerful Santa Ana winds up to 70 mph could hit Ventura and Los Angeles counties from Friday night through Saturday, forecasters said.
The combination of dry, gusty winds and low relative humidities could heighten brush fire conditions, although the moisture levels of vegetation may not be dry because of recent rains, the National Weather Service said.
The offshore winds are expected to result from a rapid build-up of high pressure over the Great Basin.
"There will be potential for wind gusts in the 60- to 70-mph range across the mountains," the agency said in a statement. Winds could range from 45 mph to 60 mph in coastal and valley areas.
