Woman killed, ex-husband arrested in shooting incident in Alpine
A woman was killed and her ex-husband arrested Friday night during a confrontation with San Diego County sheriff's deputies and the SWAT squad.
Deputies responded at 6:30 p.m. to a call that a man had handcuffed a woman and was holding a gun to her head outside a house in Alpine in eastern San Diego County, the Sheriff's Department said.
Deputies and the man exchanged shots as the man pulled the woman back into the house, officials said. The SWAT squad and crisis negotiators were then called.
Several hours later, when SWAT deputies forced their way into the house, the woman was found mortally wounded and the man had gunshot wounds in his leg, the Sheriff's Department said. Several guns were found inside the home, officials said.
Officials said the incident began when the woman took her two children to see their father for a Christmas visit. The children were not in the home during the shooting, they said.
No names were released in connection with the case until relatives of the woman are notified.
