Police are investigating the death of a woman whose body was found in a Westlake hotel room early Monday morning.

Officials said it was not clear whether the death was a homicide or an accident.

Hotel workers found the woman's body in a room at the Olympic Hotel at 725 S. Westlake Ave., near MacArthur Park, shortly after midnight, said Sgt. Michael Mabie. She had injuries that appeared to be the result of blunt force trauma and was in a pool of blood, he said.

The name of the woman, who was in her 40s, has not been released. Coroner's officials were still on scene as of 8 a.m., Mabie said.

Mabie said LAPD investigators were handling the incident as a likely homicide, but are waiting for the coroner to determine whether the woman's injuries were caused by another person.

A man who checked out of the room is regarded as a person of interest. Police have not released his name.
