Two soldiers from California killed in Afghanistan

Two soldiers from California have been killed in combat in Afghanistan, the Department of Defense announced Thursday.

Sgt. 1st Class Clark Corley Jr., 35, of Oxnard, and Spc. Thomas Mayberry, 21, of Springville in Tulare County, were killed Sunday when insurgents attacked their unit in Wardak province with an improvised explosive device.

Corley and Mayberry were assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 5th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, from Fort Bliss, Tex.
