2 dead in separate shootings hours apart in Bell Gardens

Two men were killed Saturday evening in separate shootings in Bell Gardens.

The first shooting occurred on the 6500 block of Suva Street at 5:26 p.m. and the second on the 6000 block of Gotham Street at 9:08 p.m. In both cases, the victims were transported to local hospitals where they were pronounced dead.

Sheriff's officials did not release any other details about the shootings. It was unclear whether they were related.

[Updated 2:08 p.m. Dec. 18, 2011: In the earlier attack, sheriff's officials said, a 30-year-old man was attacked by another man inside his garage. After a struggle, the suspect shot the victim in the upper torso. Officials did not have a description of the suspect and said the relationship between the two men was unknown.]
