The final California National Guard unit to serve in Iraq is due to return Friday to Northern California.

More than 60 soldiers of the 297th Medical Company will be welcomed by family and friends at the San Mateo National Guard Armory.

The company's doctors, nurses, dentists, pharmacists, X-ray technicians and other specialists provided medical and dental care for coalition personnel and worked with Iraqi medical personnel on mass-casualty exercises.

More than 15,000 California National Guard soldiers served in Iraq. Twenty-six were killed in action.
